1880s COUNTERTOP VICTORIAN CIGAR LIGHTER FIGURAL FONT OIL FUELED CIGAR LAMP

Very rare and wonderful, ca1880’s Victorian Countertop Figural Cigar Lighter with cast metal Font in the form of a beautiful, young woman, original burner and period amber glass shade. This outstanding, Cigar Lighter measures approx. 11 1/2” tall overall and 5 ¼ by 4 1/2” at the base.
This Oil Lamp type Cigar Lighter features a cast metal base with contiguous font in the form of a bust of a beautiful, young woman in Victorian garb. Mounted on each side of the font are a pair of matching dip sleeves which contain what appear to be the original brass dips. The Lighter retains its original burner, original shade ring and period / original amber colored, globe shaped glass shade.
This wonderful, Oil Lamp type Cigar Lighter would remain lit throughout the day allowing customers at a Saloon or Tobacco Shop access to its flame for lighting their Cigars.
The Lighter is made of a non-ferrous, cast metal and appears to have originally had a gold surface paint, the surface paint has been expertly removed likely in preparation for a refinishing but possibly to reveal the rich and warm surface color – as is the Lighter displays beautifully but should the new owner wish, the surface is prepared for a repainting.
This rare and very attractive, Victorian Cigar Lighter is in very good to excellent condition with no breaks, cracks, alterations, repairs or damage of any kind. The dips appear original as is the burner and ring. The amber glass shade is period and likely original. As stated above, the surface of the Lighter has been cleaned removing all but tiny remnants of the original gold paint surface – it is ready for a repaint but, myself, I love the look as is. The period, amber glass shade has a tiny flea bite at the inside of the top opening. Overall the Cigar Lighter is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully. This type of Countertop Cigar Lighter would have graced the Bar in a 19th century Saloon or the Counter of a 19th century Tobacconist.
