Description

Handsome fold-out 1960 Esso road map of New Jersey, printed more than 60 years ago.
This map opens to 34" x 24" and has great detail on old highway alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company.
There are inset plans of Trenton, Atlantic City, and the approaches to New York City.
The front cover artwork shows a family enjoying a picnic at Island Beach State Park on the Barnegat Peninsula just south of Seaside Park. Off in the distance a surf fisherman casts his line into the water.
The map was published by the Esso Standard Oil Company and is dated 1960 in the legend. It is copyrighted © MCMLIX (1959), and the code number in the lower corner is 3A.
Artwork on the back cover includes a picnicking family and "Happy" — Esso's Oil Drop Man, originally created by Danish artist Vilhelm Hansen.
Condition:
