    ESSO "HAPPY THE OIL DROP" SPOON REST
    - Late 1950s - early 1960s Standard Oil Co. 3.75" x 7.5" x 0.75". Hand painted glazed ceramic.
    Nice figural image of Happy, the ESSO Oil Drop mascot, smiling & saluting.
    The character was named after ESSO's "Happy Motoring" slogan. Happy's mascot tenure was short. He was phased out in the 1960s after the popularity of the Humble "tiger in your tank" advertising campaigns.
    This item was used as an ESSO gas station premium.
    An outstanding & very uncommon display with great eye appeal.
    Condition is considered
    GOOD to FAIR
    with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Misc. scuff wear on ESSO logo. Scattered spot glaze chipping with no ceramic cracks or breaks. Colors are still bold, bright and attractive.
    Overall, we feel this is a very displayable example by most standards (see photos).
