Handsome fold-out 1970 Esso road map of Philadelphia and vicinity, printed more than 50 years ago.
The map opens to 18" x 32½" and has great detail on old street and highway alignments, with cartography by the General Drafting Company.
The coverage area extends from West Chester to Trenton, New Jersey, including Pennypack Park, Lansdowne, Norristown, Media, Camden, Germantown, Ardmore, Willow Grove, Levitttown, Swarthmore, Chester, Gloucester City, and Bryn Mawr.
There's a map of downtown Philadelphia on the reverse side. The illustration on the cover shows Independence Hall, Independence National Historical Park.
This map was issued by the Humble Oil & Refining Company to promote its Esso brand, and it is dated 1970 in the legend. It is copyrighted © MCMLXX (1970), and the code number on the back cover is W370.
The letter W in the code indicates the map was printed by Western Publishing & Printing in Poughkeepsie, New York. The numbers 370 are the date: March 1970. Esso often issued different editions of its road maps in given years, with varying printer codes.
