STEP came up with a UNIQUE concept where the top of the blade is tapered at 3MM to fit the Bauer VERTEXX EDGE holder
(with quick release system)
, but is actually 4MM thick at ice level. From experience, goalies rather skate on 4MM thickness blades than 3MM. The 4MM offers more stability, and a much better bite angle, so provides a serious advantage to goalies.
