After winning previously in 1961, 1964, and 1967, A.J. raced the Gilmore racing Coyote chassis car of his and his father's own construction, with the Foyt motor engineered in his own shop.
After qualifying 4th, A.J. went on to win the race with an average speed of 161.331 mph, securing his place alongside the true legends of
