" "LONESTAR J.R." (Johnny Rutherford, Pennzoil Chaparral-Cosworth, 1980 Indy 500) Johnny Rutherford dominated the 1980 Indy 500 with his bright yellow Pennzoil Chaparral. Starting from the pole, he led the race seven times for a total of 118 laps and crossed the finish line 30 seconds ahead of runner up Tom Sneva to claim his third Indy 500 victory. Johnny won a total of 27 Indy Car victories and 23 pole positions and ranks 5th on the all time winner list.
