VINTAGE 1956 ESSO N.Y. to FLORIDA UPSIDE-DOWN MAP w SERVICE STATION PHOTO COVER

This is a an unusual vintage road map. It is map of the east coast of the United States. However, Florida is printed at the TOP of the map, and New York is on the BOTTOM of the map. The front cover reads: "New York to Florida 'UPSIDE-DOWN' MAP...ESSO - A Novel Aid To HAPPY MOTORING." Inside, it explains: "Nearly all road maps point North. But we've found that many travelers turn their maps upside down when going South. It helps them to know whether to turn right or left...So ESSO has designed this special map..." It is marked: "Copyright 1956 General Drafting Co." I've seen a few of these "Upside-Down" maps, but this is the ONLY example I've seen with the front photo showing an ESSO service station attendant helping "dad" with directions. It opens to just under 28 inches long, and is just under 8 & 1/2 inches wide. The map is in GOOD condition. It is slightly "puckered" from moisture or humidity - but does NOT have any moisture stains. It has no writing or tears. It is clean, with only minor wear to the edges. This map is guaranteed to be old & original - made over 60 years ago - or your money back.
