Judging by the alligator covering, and the very few others of this brand that I could find, I believe this is from before 1950, and is a tube model.  Since the company dissolved mid-century, there are not many of these.
It does indeed work!  All 3 speeds.  I tested with a 45 and a 33LP from my own closet.  The bottom turn button is the power as well as volume. The top turn button is kind of like an equalizer, if you will. The board the table sits on looks like some kind of sprayed fiberglass?  See pictures for the signs of common wear associated with it's age.  It does generate a humming noise, and volume of music is about as loud as the highest setting on a cell phone - perhaps not quite.  Will eventually need a new stylus (needle).  Measures approx 13 x 10 x 6 when closed, and weighs 10 pounds.
If nothing else, makes a great display for your collection.  Or show it to the neighborhood kids, since they've probably never even seen a vinyl record!
I do live in a smoking household, but take care
to put most eBay items in my guestroom.
